Living Room
This house obviously underwent a massive transformation, but I don’t think any room more so than this one, and that’s because we knew it was going to be the epicenter of the home. One of the first things I decided on was vaulting the ceiling in this room to take advantage of all that unused height. The other early decision was that double sliding glass door so we could enjoy nature from both inside and out.
It was no small task to open this wall up…these walls are 24” thick and its all masonry. But I worked with the Renewal by Andersen guys to dial in my rough opening and then it was just a matter of brute strength and sheer will to get it done, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
The other critical item here was restoring the chimney so it looked like it was always there, and my my Felipe and his stone masons nailed it…you literally can’t tell what’s old and what’s new.
Design-wise, because the living room is a step down from the dining room, I took the opportunity to change up the floor install; I stayed with COREtec, but I used one of their herringbone patterns to add sophistication and pattern to the base layer.
I worked with Cabinet Designers on a very specific vision I had for the bar.
And of course, what would a large, cozy living room be without a massive cast iron wood stove to warm it all up.
