I spent 6 months teaching myself Chief Architect about 5 years ago, and its some of the best time I have ever invested in myself. The ability to draw both 2D and 3D at the same time, iterate on space planning, iterate on finishes, send clients 3D walk throughs of the proposed design, etc, etc... It has become an absolutely invaluable tool in my arsenal. For the firehouse in particular I loved being able to make changes or answer GC questions on the fly without loosing any time waiting for an architects response…don't get me wrong, I am not an architect and I respect the profession a lot, but when you know you don’t have any structural confinements the ability to make decisions quickly based on your own scaled drawings saves you a lot of time.

If you’re a hands on homeowner this is an incredible piece of software you can use to iterate on your designs, and if you’re a design professional I highly recommend it.
