Door hardware

Door hardware does such wonders for bringing out the detail of your space; those items that can go unnoticed so easily, but become a focal point with the right selection.

I choose to work with Schlage on the firehouse because they are a category leader that has been manufacturing beautiful and innovative door hardware for a century (this year is actually their 100th anniversary), and have done an incredible job of balancing old & new within one piece of hardware. Their smart lock offerings bridge the gap for advanced functionality, security and design giving me the flexibility to integrate them within my overall smart home environment without having to compromise my aesthetic.

Balancing old & new is one of my favorite things to do and is a true linchpin of my overall design sensibilities. Being able to spec these beautiful geometric glass knobs that are paired with a very modern, square brass plate was love at first site. The first one of these that I mounted on my black semi-gloss doors instantly brought a smile to my face.

Schlage has also done a really good job of engineering their locks to be fully reversible, accommodate multiple door thicknesses and backseats, and allow you to install or not install the privacy lock button. All of this is to say that it greatly simplifies the ordering process from the homeowners perspective because there are so many less variables you need to account for.

smart locks

Schlage has a number of different smart locks, and it can be a little unclear what works with which type of system, and which locks integrate with other products.

I went with the Schlage Encode because I wanted to be able to remotely control my locks, and I wanted the lock to work from within my Ring app, which is the smart doorbell and security cameras I selected to monitor my property.

The Encode also works with Key by Amazon so you can accept secure deliveries.
