Windows
I knew putting new windows in the firehouse was going to make a big difference both aesthetically, and from a heating & cooling loss perspective, but I had no idea how QUIET these windows would be; I know that sounds strange, but it’s so true.
There is a ton of technical details and super nerdy info that goes along with the amount of engineering these guys have put into their windows, and that is all amiable on their site, so lemme try and simplify it a bit…
Fibrex, which is RbA’s proprietary window frame material (it’s a composite of real wood, epoxies, glues, etc) is virtually maintenance free, and they’re guaranteed not to warp, crack, peel, or need paint…EVER. Combine this with all the design choices and colors they have + their Low-E, SmartSun glass and its a win-win: I can install a window that is period correct to respect the facade of the building, and I get all the benefits of their technologically advanced windows.
roof deck doors
The old doors that led out to the roof deck were French doors, that had no business being in a door opening that small, so the first thing I did was design each door as a single out-swing to allow for the largest walk out opening possible. Renewal was also able to custom fabricate the arched top to fit in the existing opening, which was super important, because, again, being a historic facade I could not make changes to the exterior. And once the guys were on site to install they took the time to painstakingly trim out and scribe the trim to match up to the brick around each door opening. The level of pride these guys took in their work was impressive, and I am so thankful for that install crew.
